Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) NP
After a 5 hour drove north west from Mt Isa we arrived at Boodjamulla National Park. The highlight of this park has to be this absolutely magical swimming hole, where the water flows over "tufa" formations, made when the high calcium content of the water is deposited, particularly on fallen trees & debris.
The walk around the gorge clifftops is also stunning. In one of the gullies the sandstone shows ripple marks from when it formed 1500 million years ago.
A little off the beaten track, on a limestone outcrop fossils of shells and trilobites could be seen, as well as a few flowering kapok trees. There was also plenty of wildlife to keep us entertained, including this agile wallaby. The bower birds like collecting anything white to decorate their bower, even toilet paper!
